Cubs update.

Wow, it has been a little while since I have written an article, and I first must say I am sorry for that. I have been swamped with the new baby and night classes for grad school have started up again. Don’t fret I haven’t abondanded the beloved Cubs.

I would like to say I hope that Glendon Rusch makes a full and healthy recovery. I know I have been against him all season and wanted him off the Cubs, but I never wanted it this way. A person’s health is nothing to wish harm on and I hope that Glendon recovers and can comeback and pitch again, just not on the Cubs.

I also want to say I hope the Lee family is doing ok and that their daughter makes a full recovery also. I don’t know fully what is wrong with her, but I do know it is serious enough for the Cubs to tell Derek to stay with his family until things get straightened out. Having my own child now, I understand the pain he is going through.

The Cubs are competing for one of the 3 worst records in the league and I think the way they are going they will finish with the 2^nd worst record. They need to revamp the rotation and the middle infield before they can ever think of competing again.

Fans getting smarter?

Last night was the season’s smallest crowd at Wrigley, 31,494, to see Ryan “call me Dumpster not” Dempster lost another game in the 9^th. Maybe Cub fans are starting to get smarter and are going to decide the only way to make the Tribune improve the Cubs is if they stop going. If Cub fans stop showing up, hopefully the Tribune Company will decide to make someone pay for: not filling up the seats (especially after the expansion), not buying the souvenirs and the loss in concession stand sales. Now I am not saying root against the Cubs because that would be blasphemy and I don’t want that, but if there is a way to show displeasure, it is not showing up. The problem with not showing up this year is most of the tickets have been sold, so while they lose money in concessions, ticket sales are still going to be good. My suggestion to Cub fans is stop buying tickets in the beginning of the season until they prove worthy a team to buy the tickets. I know the problem with this is that the scalpers will buy the tickets and when/if they become good it will cost 2x the price for tickets, but the upside is that if the Cubs still suck, not only will the Tribune lose more money and have to think about reassessing their strategy about Cubs, the scalpers will lose a ton of money and maybe we can see less of them also.

Welcome to the Cellar: Additional Transactions

First I want to welcome the Chicago Cubs to the cellar. The team that started out decent after the all-star break has completely fallen apart, due to injuries and other various reasons (lack of talent maybe?). The loss to Pirates tonight was the loss that got the Cubs in the cellar. I have to admit I did not watch any of tonight’s game, but listened to the last 2 innings on the radio. The team just isn’t good and there will have to be a ton of changes this off-season. I think that the Tribune needs to start at Andy McPhail and work all the way done to the bullpen coach and fire them all.

When it didn’t look to get much worse the other night Carlos Zambrano got hurt. He is supposesively not hurt to bad as the MRI showed no structural damage. I think the team should let him rest the rest of the season, and they should also leave him off the DL. Speaking of that, why did the Cubs put Michael Barrett on DL after September 1^st? If anyone knows a reason please tell me.

The Cubs lost Jerome Williams today on the waivers to the Oakland A’s. I didn’t even know he was on the waiver wire, but I guess good riddance. I thought that the Cubs might be able to get a warm body for their minors for him, but I guess not.

The Cubs also acquired Adam Harben from the Minnesota Twins today as the player to be named later in the Phil Nevin deal. According to Baseball America he was #12 on their prospect list and that he could even move up to #10 on list.
